Guangzhou Sailong Holds Kick-off Meeting and Implementation Plan Review for National Key R&D Program Project “Ultra-High Voltage Electron Gun for Powder Bed Additive Manufacturing and Its Applications”

On May 14, 2025, the kick-off meeting and implementation plan demonstration meeting of the National Key R&D Program project “Ultra-High Voltage Electron Gun for Powder Bed Additive Manufacturing and Its Applications”, led by Guangzhou Sailong Additive Manufacturing Co., Ltd., was successfully held in Huangpu, Guangzhou.


The meeting was conducted in a combination of online and offline formats. Attendees included Liu Zhihui, Deputy Director of the Industry-University-Research Collaboration Division of the Guangdong Provincial Department of Science and Technology; Zhang Lei, Program Officer of the Manufacturing Division, High Technology Center of the National Natural Science Foundation of China; and Fan Li, Director of Guangzhou Torch High-Tech Entrepreneurship Service Center.


The expert group for the project implementation plan demonstration was composed of 11 authoritative experts in the field, including: Professor Lin Xin from Northwestern Polytechnical University (responsible expert, group leader); Researcher Liu Feng from Beijing Science and Technology Innovation Lightweight Research Institute Co., Ltd. (responsible expert); Director Bi Yunjie from Xihua Laboratory New Additive Manufacturing Research Institute; Professor Liu Bo from Sichuan University; Professor Lu Longsheng from South China University of Technology; Professor Liu Siwei from Xi’an University of Architecture and Technology; Professor Liu Hailang from Guilin University of Electronic Technology; Professor Li Ruidi from Central South University; Professor Song Changhui from South China University of Technology; Associate Professor Li Wenping from Beihang University; and Researcher Yan Xingchen from the Institute of New Materials, Guangdong Academy of Sciences.

Mr. Wang Qiangbing, General Manager of the company, presided over the kick-off meeting. He extended a warm welcome and sincere gratitude to the leaders and experts attending the event, and introduced the company’s development history as well as its achievements in recent years in frontier technology breakthroughs, demonstration of typical applications, and construction of mass production lines.

He emphasized that taking the lead in undertaking a National Key R&D Program project represents full recognition of the company’s scientific research strength. The company will strictly follow the project implementation plan, refine the timeline, fully ensure resource input, and establish an efficient management mechanism to guarantee the high-quality completion of the project as scheduled.

Liu Zhihui, Deputy Director of the Industry-University-Research Collaboration Division of the Guangdong Provincial Department of Science and Technology, gave a high appraisal of the project team. He called for continuously advancing independent innovation and the commercialization of research outcomes, serving major national needs in high-end medical devices, aerospace, and nuclear energy, and expressed his expectation that the project lead would deliver more landmark achievements.

Zhang Lei, Program Officer of the High Technology Center of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, extended his congratulations on the approval of the project and offered guidance. He expressed the hope that, under the guidance of the expert panel, the implementation plan could be further refined, common technical challenges could be addressed, and the project could be advanced efficiently with tangible achievements delivered.

After the kick-off meeting, the implementation plan review was chaired by Director Bi Yunjie of the New Additive Manufacturing Research Institute, Xihua Laboratory. Project leader Professor Tang Huiping of Zhejiang University City College, together with the sub-project leaders, presented the detailed implementation plan covering the design of the ultra-high voltage electron gun and electron optical system, the development of a high-power high-voltage power supply, overall equipment integration, and process optimization for forming complex structures of refractory metals.


The expert panel conducted in-depth questioning and provided guidance, unanimously agreeing that the project objectives were clear and the technical roadmap was feasible. They offered constructive suggestions on improving equipment precision, optimizing material performance, and strengthening project scientific management. After discussion, the expert panel highly recognized the project’s innovativeness and agreed to approve the implementation plan.

The successful convening of this meeting has laid a solid foundation for the smooth implementation of the project “Ultra-High Voltage Electron Gun for Powder Bed Additive Manufacturing and Its Applications.” With the concerted efforts of all parties, the project is expected to overcome key technological challenges, drive major breakthroughs in high-melting-point, high-efficiency, and high-quality electron beam powder bed additive manufacturing technology, and inject new momentum into the high-quality development of China’s refractory metals high-end manufacturing industry.
